What is Good Manufacturing Practice?

When a manufacturer creates a product, it is bound by a variety of laws in California. In addition, the manufacturer also is bound by industry and manufacturing standards that are the normal procedures followed by all manufacturers. One of those is Good Manufacturing Practice. GMP, according to the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, is a general manufacturing process that ensures the production of products is consistent and controlled.

Following GMP, allows a company to make sure its products are safe and meet quality standards. It helps to minimize risks associated with using the product and reduces liability issues because safer products result from using GMP.

GMP covers all areas of production, from start to finish. It is like a blueprint that helps manufacturers develop safe standards. It requires a manufacturer to have written documentation for each step of the manufacturing process. These documents allow for consistent training and operations throughout the facility and over time. For example, if a factory has high employee turnover, when a new employee takes over a specific job duty, he or she receives training based on the GMP written documentation. This new employee will do the job in the exact same way as the old employee because he or she had the exact same training. It reduces inconsistent work in this way.

GMP is widely accepted in the manufacturing. It helps everyone to put the quality first and focus on providing you with the best products possible. This information is for educational use only. It is not legal advice.
